Google has unveiled its plans to introduce a fresh look and an array of new features to the Google Chrome web browser this month. This upcoming update coincides with Chrome's imminent 15th anniversary. In a blog post, Google revealed that Chrome's forthcoming aesthetic is based on the Material You design, which Android smartphone users have gradually received over the past few years.
Google has placed a considerable emphasis on enhancing the legibility of Chrome's icons, describing them as "refreshed." Furthermore, users can anticipate encountering novel themes and colors, which will aid in distinguishing between various profiles, such as work and personal accounts.
The settings menu will also undergo a transformation, incorporating additional options for streamlined access to various features. The Chrome menu will facilitate expedited access to Chrome extensions, Google Translate, and Google Password Manager, according to Google.
The Chrome Web Store will likewise embrace the Material You Design, thereby undergoing a visual revamp. Material You was introduced alongside Android 12 and is characterized by a design language that employs a broader spectrum of colors and a straightforward user interface based on the device's wallpaper. Users are afforded the flexibility to customize the colors of individual elements, encompassing accent and text hues. In the context of the Chrome browser, the icons, homepage, and settings page will adopt a cohesive appearance, fostering improved user retention and navigation.
Beyond the aesthetic transformation, the Chrome Web Store will resemble Google Play, particularly in the realm of recommendations. Google intends to introduce extension categories, including AI-powered extensions and Editors' spotlights. Additionally, personalized recommendations will become more prevalent. Google's commitment to expanding Bard, its generative AI, is reiterated in the blog post. This generative AI capability is already being integrated into Google Search, enabling the provision of query summaries through a side panel. A similar feature exists in Microsoft Edge, a Chrome competitor, allowing users to pin the Google Search side panel to the toolbar.
Security is also getting a boost in Google Chrome, with the implementation of real-time Google Safe Browsing. This enhancement will ensure that sites are checked against Google's database of known malicious sites in real-time. By reducing the time gap between threat identification and prevention, Google anticipates a 25 percent improvement in protection against malware and phishing threats.
