Coastal Odyssey: A sustainable coastal border adventure that is leading the way

The government has officially initiated the Coastal Odyssey, a groundbreaking sustainable coastal border expedition designed to advance environmental conservation efforts and fortify security measures along the coastal regions. Executed by Oxbow Media in collaboration with Lexus Hybrid SUV, this pioneering venture commenced on January 9, marked by the inaugural event attended by Lt Gen RC Srikanth, VSM, Chief of Staff HeadQuarters Eastern Command, overseeing the flag-off ceremony.

This strategic initiative is in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary approach to border area outreach, emphasizing connectivity among coastal communities and the revitalization of India's maritime economic and military capabilities. The Coastal Odyssey, extending across the vast 6200 kilometers of India's coastal border, is a collaborative endeavor involving the esteemed Indian Armed Forces and Incredible India, as detailed in an official press release.

Taking the helm of this sustainable expedition, a fleet of Lexus Hybrid vehicles will lead the way, advocating for responsible development, fostering connections among coastal communities, and promoting cultural harmony across diverse landscapes. This ambitious venture serves as a significant stride toward embracing sustainable practices, maintaining ecological equilibrium, and securing the nation's maritime borders, with the Ministry of Tourism actively participating in conjunction with the 'Incredible India' campaign, further supported by the Navy.

The Coastal Odyssey, a joint effort encompassing government agencies, environmental organizations, and the armed forces, is designed to explore and address the challenges faced by India's coastal regions. With a coastline spanning over 7,500 kilometers, these maritime borders are critical not only for national security but also for hosting diverse ecosystems that demand protection from various threats.

The expedition places emphasis on three core pillars – environmental conservation, community engagement, and border security. The participants, including environmental scientists, naval officers, conservationists, and local communities, collaboratively strive to create a holistic approach to coastal management.

Coastal Odyssey's vision is to propel an unprecedented expedition in Indian maritime border tourism, facilitating connections between coastal borders, communities, and the nation's maritime history, all while championing the principles of eco-friendliness and sustainability.

This ambitious undertaking not only seeks to deepen ties among coastal regions but also aspires to set a benchmark for responsible exploration. By promoting these values, the expedition stands as a testament to the promotion of conscientious travel, crafting a narrative that resonates with stakeholders across the spectrum.

The inception of this civil defense initiative coincided with the resolution of tensions regarding coastal tourism between India and the Maldives. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi showcased his recent visit to "India’s best-kept secret," Lakshadweep, attributing the island group as "a timeless legacy of traditions and a testament to the spirit of its people," effectively endorsing Incredible India!

Aligned with his vision of promoting sustainable tourism and fostering national pride, Oxbow and Lexus are set to traverse the country's coastline in their Hybrid SUVs RX, LX, and ES. Their aim is to encourage those with wanderlust to adopt eco-friendly tourism practices, preserving the natural and cultural heritage of destinations while ensuring their long-term viability.

The Coastal Odyssey presents an opportunity to explore the vibrant shores of India, navigating through unique cultures and lifestyles, from the bustling fishing villages of Kerala to the colorful markets of Goa, the beats of Konkani music, and the delicacies of Odisha and West Bengal. The expedition includes major highlights such as Digha, Contai, Astranga Port near Puri, Vizayanagaram Fort, Vizag Museum, INS Kurusura Submarine Museum, Kakinada Port, Pondicherry Shipyard, Shri Aurobindo Ashram, temples of Mahabalipuram, Gingee Fort, Ram Setu, Nagapattinam Port, Bekal fort, Old Goa, Chapora Fort, Ratnadurg Fort, Murud Janjira Fort, Gateway of India, INS Humla, Porbandar Fort, Somnath Temple, and Kandla Port.
