Trinamool Congress MLA: "I can be attacked," despite accusations of party corruption

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Manoranjan Byapari has made serious allegations against local leaders of his own party in Bolagar, Hooghly, accusing them of engaging in corruption and criminal activities. Byapari, expressing concerns about his safety, has called on the government to enhance his security, stating that fighting against corruption has made him susceptible to attacks, especially since he has raised his voice against activities such as coal and cattle mafia. He took to Facebook to shed light on the situation, acknowledging the potential risks and urging the government to increase its security measures.

The Trinamool Congress MLA pointed out that due to safety concerns, he is unable to enter his own constituency. Byapari criticized the alleged corruption and criminal activities within his assembly constituency, emphasizing that the party is aware of these issues but has failed to take any corrective action.

This development follows closely on the heels of Bengal Minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim's admission that some TMC leaders have been involved in corrupt practices. Hakim, however, defended the party, claiming that while some individuals may have engaged in wrongdoing, it does not represent the entire party. He asserted that the perception of corruption is being manipulated by political opponents, particularly the BJP.

Addressing the allegations against himself, Hakim stated, "I have been raided by CBI, got arrested, but will one person in my constituency be able to come and tell me if I am involved in corruption of a single penny?" He further defended the TMC, highlighting the BJP's reliance on agencies and lack of political welfare schemes, asserting that the TMC is not intimidated by such tactics.
