Delhi police declare SOP: If farmers are aggressive, we won't be on the defensive

Delhi Police has adopted a stringent approach towards the farmers gathering at the Singhu Border, emphasizing the imperative of preventing any potential vulnerability that might allow them to breach the border and enter the national capital on their tractors.

To this end, the Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel underwent a thorough briefing regarding the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at the Singhu Border, which has become the focal point of the 'Delhi Chalo' protest led by thousands of farmers.

During the briefing session, the law enforcement officials were instructed not to adopt a defensive stance in the face of aggressive farmer behavior.

"We must prioritize our self-defense and exert pressure to repel them. It's crucial to communicate to the farmers that breaching the barricades is not permissible," emphasized the instructions delivered to the police officers and RAF personnel.

Additionally, the forces were directed to employ tear gas shells if necessary to disperse the protesters and maintain order at the border.

"We acknowledge that the farmers may choose to remain stationed at the border, a matter for the government to address. However, we must fortify every aspect of our defense to prevent any potential incursion with their tractors," underscored the guidance provided to the forces.

To ensure the effective implementation of these directives, over 5,000 police personnel, including paramilitary forces, have been deployed across various border points, including Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur.

The protest, primarily organized by farmers' associations predominantly from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, aims to voice demands for legislation guaranteeing Minimum Support Price.

Footage from the Haryana border depicted police resorting to tear gas to thwart attempts by protesters to breach barricades, exemplifying the stringent measures being taken to uphold law and order amidst the ongoing agitation.
