Meta appears ready to make another big move in the smart glasses market — this time teaming up with Oakley, known for its sports-focused designs. A teaser posted on the new Instagram account @oakleymeta, along with reposts from Mark Zuckerberg, Oakley, and Instagram’s official handle, hints at a new product launch scheduled for June 20. The caption: “The next evolution is coming”.
This would mark Meta’s third collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear giant behind both Oakley and Ray-Ban. Unlike the previous Ray-Ban launches, which were geared towards everyday lifestyle and light AI usage, the Oakley x Meta smart glasses are expected to focus on performance and sport, possibly designed for athletes, runners, cyclists, and fitness fans.
These new glasses, reportedly codenamed “Supernova 2”, are said to be inspired by Oakley’s popular Sphaera line — eyewear built for multisport use. A likely design change is a camera placed at the centre of the frame instead of the sides, offering improved point-of-view footage for active users.
Meta’s earlier offerings:
-
Ray-Ban Stories (2021)
-
Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses (2023) – launched in India in 2025, priced from ₹29,900, featuring:
-
Meta AI voice assistant
-
Real-time translation
-
WhatsApp integration
-
Built-in camera
-
Hands-free photo/video capabilities
-
These glasses were more about media and lifestyle, not high-intensity sport — something Meta seems to be addressing with this new launch.
As for India, there’s no confirmation yet. The Ray-Ban Meta glasses arrived in India months after the global launch, and a similar delay is possible for the Oakley variant. But with the rising demand for AI and wearables here, a future Indian launch seems likely.
We’ll get the full picture — including specs, features, and pricing — on June 20.
