In response to the Hindi-Marathi controversy, R Madhavan claims he has never had any issues

R. Madhavan has weighed in on the ongoing Hindi-Marathi language debate, bringing a balanced and personal perspective rooted in his multicultural upbringing. Raised in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now Jharkhand), Madhavan emphasized that language has never been a barrier for him, despite having lived and studied in various parts of India.

In a conversation with IANS, the Aap Jaisa Koi actor shared,
"No, I have never experienced it. I speak Tamil. I speak Hindi. And I have studied in Kolhapur also. I have learnt Marathi also. So, I have never had any problems because of language."

His comments come amid a growing controversy that began in April when the Maharashtra government made Hindi mandatory as a third language in state-run primary schools, in addition to Marathi and English. The move sparked political backlash, especially after videos surfaced showing alleged Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) members confronting non-Marathi speakers. The situation has reignited a broader discussion on linguistic identity, regional pride, and inclusivity.

Other celebrities have also shared their views on the matter. At the trailer launch of Son of Sardaar 2, actor Ajay Devgn responded in his signature Singham style, quipping "Aata Majhi Satakli" when asked about the language row.
Shilpa Shetty, while more reserved, acknowledged that she was aware of the situation but refrained from offering detailed commentary.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Pahariya, Janhvi Kapoor’s partner, took a more reflective approach. In a lengthy Instagram post, he wrote:
"Language shapes who we are. It has shaped our states, our stories, given us poets, songs, and revolutions. Marathi is no exception. It must be preserved, protected, and passed on, just like all of our languages. But that pride cannot come at the cost of others’ dignity. Especially others who are making an honest, hard living."

Professionally, R. Madhavan continues to remain active across genres. He is gearing up for Dhurandhar, a high-octane ensemble film also starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal. Additionally, fans will see him reunite with Ajay Devgn in Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy sequel De De Pyaar De 2, alongside Rakul Preet Singh. Madhavan’s 2025 lineup is already packed, with three releases earlier this year—Kesari 2, Test, and Aap Jaisa Koi.

Through his calm and inclusive response, Madhavan stands as a reminder that India’s linguistic diversity can be a strength rather than a source of division.
