A 22-year-old man tragically lost his life in a road accident that is suspected to have been deliberately orchestrated by his wife’s family, as they were strongly opposed to the marriage. The young man, identified as Satish, died instantly following the incident, while his wife, Raghavi, sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police officials have since arrested Raghavi’s father, Azhagar, in connection with the case and are actively pursuing further investigation to uncover the full extent of the family’s alleged involvement.
Satish, who worked as a farmer, had recently married 27-year-old Raghavi, a widow and mother of two children from her previous marriage. Despite being deeply in love, their decision to marry was made in defiance of Raghavi’s family, who disapproved of the relationship. Facing threats and hostility, the couple fled to Trichy to begin a new life together. In response, Raghavi’s father filed a missing person complaint at the Melur Police Station. This complaint led to Raghavi’s return home, although reports suggest she was not permitted to reunite with Satish during that time.
Determined to bring his wife back, Satish lodged a complaint at the Melur All Women Police Station, claiming that Raghavi was missing. Following this, the police summoned both families and conducted an inquiry. Since both Satish and Raghavi were adults capable of making their own decisions, the authorities allowed them to continue their relationship. However, her two children were left in the custody of Raghavi’s parents, intensifying the family tensions.
Tragedy struck soon after the inquiry. While Satish and Raghavi were returning to Trichy on their two-wheeler, a speeding car rammed into their vehicle. The impact was so severe that Satish was killed instantly. Raghavi, though injured, was spotted by a police patrol team and quickly taken to Melur hospital for urgent medical care. The incident shocked the local community, raising suspicions that the accident was not accidental but intentional.
Satish’s grieving parents lodged a formal complaint with the Kottampatti Police, accusing Raghavi’s family of being behind the attack. Raghavi herself provided a chilling testimony to investigators, revealing that after their motorbike was hit, three of her relatives emerged from the car. According to her statement, they brutally assaulted Satish with iron rods and even attempted to attack her. Fearing for her life, she pretended to have lost consciousness. During this time, the attackers allegedly contacted a relative living in Singapore, boasting that they had killed both Satish and Raghavi.
In the aftermath of the brutal attack, police swiftly arrested Raghavi’s father, Azhagar, while the hunt continues for the other accused family members who remain at large. Authorities have confirmed that an in-depth investigation is ongoing, as the case highlights not only the devastating consequences of familial opposition to marriage but also the extreme measures some individuals may resort to to enforce their will. This incident has sparked outrage and sorrow, drawing attention to the darker side of familial honor and societal pressures in parts of Tamil Nadu.
