A boiler explosion in a Pakistani plant killed 15 workers and probably trapped more

A boiler blast at a glue-manufacturing factory in Pakistan’s Punjab province killed 15 workers and injured seven others, with more people feared trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

The explosion occurred early Friday in Faisalabad, about 130 km from Lahore. According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar, the blast was so intense that nearby buildings also collapsed. Rescue teams have been pulling victims from the debris and believe several workers may still be trapped.

District authorities, Rescue 1122, the fire brigade and other emergency units are continuing operations to clear rubble and search for survivors. Punjab Police Chief Dr Usman Anwar ordered full support for all responding agencies.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the tragedy, offered condolences to families of the victims, and requested a detailed report from the Faisalabad Commissioner on how the explosion occurred.
