Rohini Acharya’s recent social media intervention has come several months after the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s overwhelming defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, a setback that prompted her to announce her withdrawal from active politics and openly accuse her brother Tejashwi Yadav and his close associates of being responsible for the party’s decline. Acharya, the daughter of RJD founder and veteran leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, has once again stirred intense political discussion by sharing a sharply critical post that questions the present course and internal functioning of the party. The timing and tone of the remarks are widely being interpreted as an indirect but pointed criticism of Tejashwi Yadav, especially as they emerge ahead of an important party meeting.
In her statement, Acharya argued that anyone who genuinely believes in the ideological foundations of Laluism and has devoted themselves selflessly to the movement that was created to safeguard the rights of marginalised, backward, and deprived sections of society cannot remain silent in the face of what she described as the party’s steady deterioration. According to her, true followers of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s legacy are morally compelled to question those individuals and influences that have contributed to the organisation’s present condition.
She elaborated that those who take pride in Lalu Prasad Yadav’s lifelong struggle for social justice and equality, and who sincerely wish to carry forward his political ideology, will inevitably raise questions about the forces responsible for weakening the party. Such individuals, she said, would not hesitate to speak out against what she termed the suspicious and questionable conduct of certain people, regardless of personal or political consequences. Her remarks suggested that silence, in her view, amounts to complicity in the erosion of the party’s founding principles.
Describing the current phase of the party as bitter, distressing, and deeply painful, Acharya alleged that an organisation once known for fearlessly championing the rights and entitlements of ordinary people has effectively slipped out of the hands of its core ideological custodians. She claimed that the real control now rests with “infiltrators and conspirators” who, she alleged, are aligned with fascist forces and were planted within the party with the intention of dismantling Laluism from the inside. According to her, these elements have entrenched themselves in influential positions and, in her assessment, have been alarmingly successful in advancing their hidden agenda.
She further sharpened her critique by stating that the present leadership must abandon a style of functioning that involves dodging uncomfortable questions, evading clear answers, and creating confusion among workers and supporters. Instead, she argued, those holding responsibility should respond with clarity, logic, and verifiable facts, thereby restoring trust and transparency within the organisation.
Acharya also took strong exception to what she described as the use of abusive language, personal attacks, and indecent behaviour directed at individuals who speak out in defence of Laluism. She urged the leadership to engage in serious self-reflection and course correction, rather than resorting to intimidation or character assassination of critics who claim to be acting in the party’s ideological interest.
Her latest comments revive memories of her dramatic and highly publicised rupture with both politics and her family following the RJD’s crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections last year. In that election, the party’s strength in the Assembly fell drastically from 75 seats to just 24, while the Mahagathbandhan alliance as a whole was reduced to a mere 35 seats. The day after the results were declared, Acharya announced that she was stepping away from politics altogether and distancing herself from family affairs, holding two of Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides—Sanjay Yadav and Rameez—directly responsible for the electoral disaster.
At that time, she had shared an emotional post on social media in which she alleged that she had been subjected to humiliation and verbal abuse within the party structure. She wrote that she had been insulted not just as a political worker, but as a daughter, a sister, a married woman, and a mother, claiming that filthy abuses were hurled at her and that even physical intimidation was attempted. Emphasising her refusal to compromise on her dignity, she stated that she would not surrender her self-respect or suppress the truth, regardless of pressure or threats.
Acharya further claimed that she was effectively pushed away from her family and targeted with abuse simply for speaking openly about internal issues. She concluded her earlier remarks with a cautionary note to others, warning them against following the same path she had taken, suggesting that honesty and dissent within the party came at a heavy personal cost.
