Police in Indore have registered a case against operators of five social media accounts for allegedly circulating a misleading video on Instagram that falsely claimed a scuffle took place during a recent concert by Karan Aujla in the city.
According to officials, the video was widely shared with captions suggesting that a fight had broken out during the singer’s March 21 event. However, a review by the police’s social media monitoring team found that the clip was neither recent nor related to Indore. Investigations revealed that the footage actually belonged to an older programme held in Mumbai, and had been reposted with false claims, leading to confusion among the public.
Based on these findings, authorities booked the unidentified individuals under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for violating orders related to the spread of misleading information. Officials noted that restrictions were already in place against circulating such content on social media, and the incident amounted to a breach of those directives.
To trace those responsible, police have reached out to Instagram, seeking details of the account holders involved in sharing the video. Further action will be taken once their identities are established, as the investigation into the matter continues.
