A UP man was killed in an Iranian airstrike on Saudi Arabia after his wife called and there was a sudden explosion

A wave of grief has engulfed Baghain village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district after 26-year-old labourer Ravi Gopal was killed in a missile-related incident in Riyadh amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. His death has left his family struggling not only with the loss but also with delays in bringing his body back to India.

On the night of March 18, Ravi had just finished his shift at a factory and was speaking to his wife, Ritu, over the phone. Their conversation, which began around 8:20 PM, continued normally until nearly 9:53 PM, when a loud explosion was suddenly heard. The call disconnected immediately, and his phone became unreachable thereafter. The following day, a friend informed the family that Ravi had died in the incident.

The explosion is believed to be linked to missile activity over Riyadh, where Saudi Arabia had reported intercepting incoming ballistic missiles. Debris from one such interception is suspected to have fallen near a refinery, and Ravi is believed to have been fatally struck by falling fragments.

Ravi was the sole breadwinner for his family, which included his parents, his wife, and their four-year-old son. He had moved to Saudi Arabia for work after his marriage in 2020, supporting his household through his earnings abroad.

The family has expressed distress over the lack of timely assistance, stating that they have not received clear support in repatriating his body. Although local police have acknowledged the case and assured help, the process has yet to move forward.

Ravi’s death adds to a growing number of Indian casualties linked to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Several Indians working in Gulf countries—where a large expatriate population is employed across sectors such as construction, healthcare, and services—have been affected by the ongoing hostilities.

The incident highlights both the human cost of the conflict and the vulnerability of migrant workers caught in regions experiencing a sudden escalation of violence.
