Brazilian mixed martial artist Allan Nascimento has died at the age of 34 after reportedly suffering a heart attack in his sleep, the UFC confirmed on Monday.
Nascimento, who had been part of the UFC since 2021, was reportedly found unresponsive on Monday morning. According to the promotion, emergency medical personnel responded to the incident, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved fighter and exemplary flyweight, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep.
"Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Allan's family, friends, teammates, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," the UFC said in a statement.
Nascimento's death has shocked the mixed martial arts community. The Brazilian flyweight had earned a reputation as a technically accomplished fighter and was a respected member of Brazil's renowned Chute Boxe Diego Lima gym.
Tributes pour in
Nascimento made his UFC debut in 2021 and compiled a 4-2 record inside the Octagon. His final fight came in June, when he suffered a split-decision loss to Mitch Raposo. He finished his professional MMA career with 22 victories and seven defeats.
Training under coach Diego Lima, Nascimento worked alongside several leading Brazilian fighters, including former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and UFC lightweight Elves Brener.
His gym, Chute Boxe Diego Lima, paid tribute to him on social media, remembering him not only for his achievements inside the cage but also for his character.
"We lost a warrior, a friend, a dedicated competitor and an extraordinary human being.
"Allan inspired on and off the mats with his determination, humility, respect and fighting spirit. Your presence will be missed immeasurably. Rest in peace, Allan. Your name, your story and your legacy will live forever," the academy said.
The UFC also honoured Nascimento's contribution to the sport, describing him as a "skilled competitor and consummate professional" during his six-fight tenure with the organisation.
Nascimento is survived by his family, friends and teammates, who continue to receive condolences and tributes from across the mixed martial arts community.
