Dalit household fined Rs 60,000 after boy touches God's idol in Karnataka's Kolar

 


A Dalit home in Karnataka's Kolar district has been fined Rs 60,000 after its child touched a pole connected to the idol of Sidiranna, a famous south Indian village deity. The happening took residence in Ullerahalli town in Karnataka's Kolar district.

On September 8, the villagers were holding the Bhootayamma fair and Dalits were not permitted to join the village deity’s temple. During this, Shoba and Ramesh's 15-year-old children touched a pole connected to the idol of Sidiranna, a famous village deity.

Venkateshappa, a local, noticed it and alleged breaking the code of behavior of the village. Then they called the family of the boy to occur before the village seniors the next day. The villagers were humiliated. 

They alleged that Dalits touched the bar and now it is dirty and they should repaint everything. The village elder fined them to pay Rupees 60,000 by October 1 for repainting. They even alerted that if they forget to pay the fine by October 1, the whole family will be out of the group/village.
