Every person who violates traffic laws and is fined (e-challans) by the traffic police would receive a 50% rebate on the challans, according to the state government of Karnataka. The administration hopes to reduce the backlog of unresolved cases with this action. The deadline for this rebate is February 11, 2023.
This was in response to a command given to people who disobeyed the law and were photographed by traffic surveillance cameras by Pushpa V.S., Under Secretary, Transport Department. A decision was made during a hearing that was conducted on January 27 and presided over by Justice B Veerappa, executive chairman of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority.
In order to ensure that everyone has access to justice, the meeting decided to ask the transportation department to take action as soon as possible and to report on its progress. Following the discussion, a suggestion for a one-time, 50% refund to clear these backlog cases was made.
Over two crore e-challans cases totaling more than Rs 500 crore are still waiting, making up more than 80% of the total number of such cases across the state, according to Dr. M.A. Saleem, Special Commissioner (Traffic), Bengaluru.
"Anyone can check the status of any issues related to their vehicle and make a payment on our website. A link would be supplied, and the Bengaluru Traffic Police internet interface will be changed by Friday, he continued.
He added asked everyone who owned a vehicle to visit the website to see whether there were any pending challans for their registered automobiles and to take advantage of the government's refund program.
