After being caught accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh by Lokayukta, the Karnataka government's anti-corruption body, the son of BJP Lawmaker Madal Virupakshappa was taken into custody on Friday morning. From the MLA's home, the officials discovered Rs 6 crore in cash.
Prashanth Madal, the son of BJP Lawmaker Madal Virupakshappa, was busted on Thursday for accepting a Rs 40 lakh bribe. The anti-corruption watchdog of the Karnataka government then carried out searches at his home and workplace.
At the residence of the BJP MLA, the Lokayukta discovered Rs. 6 crores. The Legislator will probably be called in for questioning by the anti-corruption watchdog as well.
The Lokayukta discovered Rs. 1.7 crore in Prashanth Madal's office in addition to the 40 lakh bribe.
The Lokayukta officials detained Prashanth Madal, the son of sitting BJP Lawmaker Madal Virupakshappa, as he accepted the money in his office. The chairman of Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd is Madal Virupakshappa.
Officials from the Lokayukta said that a man filed a complaint against Prashanth on Thursday morning, accusing him of accepting bribes.
As a result, the Lokayukta authorities set up a trap, and Prashanth was caught in it while taking a Rs 40 lakh bribe.
A Lokayukta representative claimed, "We searched his office and discovered Rs. 1.7 billion. We believe Prashanth accepted bribes on his father's behalf. The source of the money we discovered in his office is being looked into."
