Hubballi, in the South Western Railway(SWR) zone of Indian Railways, was given recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records for possessing the world's longest railroad platform at Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji station.
The Hubballi station was built as part of the Hubballi yard renovation for a cost of Rs. 20.1 crores. At Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Station, yard remodeling with electronic interlocking was successfully launched in February 2021 to make it easier to receive and dispatch trains.
Hubballi's Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Train Station is a crucial intersection in Karnataka. The North Karnataka region's hub for trade and commerce is Hubballi. This station is located at the intersection of the railroads heading in the directions of Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi, Hosapete, and Bengaluru (Davanagere side) (Londa side).
The main snag that held up trains during receiving and despatch was single-line working towards Gadag, Davangere, and Londa.
Three more platforms have been installed in addition to the five already present ones to better serve the city's expanding demands. Platform No. 8, which is 1507 meters, has the distinction of being the world's longest railroad platform. From the longest platform, two trains with electric engines will simultaneously depart.
Meets the region's future transportation demands in Hubballi and Dharwad. Improves the yard's ability to run additional trains when they become necessary in the future. Trains might start moving in two directions at once. Saves time for passengers and prevents express trains from being held up when entering the station.
At a cost of Rs. 519 crores, Indian Railways also finished electrifying the 245 RKM Hosapete-Hubballi-Tinaighat Railway line. The road travels through the Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Vijayanagar, Koppal, Gadag, and Dharwad districts. This is one of Karnataka's main coal routes, connecting Mormugao Port with steel and thermal power plants. The double-line track can be electrified to make the route carbon-neutral and pollution-free.
This key coal route connects Goa's Mormagao Port with Karnataka's steel and thermal power facilities, making it possible to transport bulk goods with ease. Electricity usage lessens pollution and dependence on diesel. Also, it will allow for annual savings of around 2,50,000 kiloliters of diesel and approximately Rs. 250 crores.
