2nd meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group begins in Hyderabad

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) hosted the second in-person meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), which got underway on Monday in Hyderabad.

In his inauguration address, Minister of State for Communications and IT Devusinh Chauhan stated that "the government's focus is on bridging the digital divide."

At the time, the minister reaffirmed that by 2025, broadband will be available in every hamlet in the nation. Additionally, he mentioned that India is developing 6G technology.

A Narayanaswamy, the state minister of social justice and empowerment, reportedly urged for multi-stakeholder involvement in the discussions about a sustainable and inclusive digital economy.

The event's keynote speaker, DoT Secretary Rajaraman, claimed that the Internet has the power to reshape governance and the way of life. Additionally, he underlined the importance of inclusive standards. Rajaraman continued by saying it was crucial to lowering the price of digital technologies.

The G20 members have invited a number of people from around the world to the three-day gathering in Hyderabad to talk about cyber security, skilling, and digital public infrastructure.

The visitors will go to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, to learn more about the nation's competence in the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT), 5G-i, and other digital and telecom technologies.

'Multi-stakeholder Consultation for Mutual Recognition of Digital Skills' will be placed on April 18. This is important to note.

The "Stay Safe Online (SSO)" campaign and the "G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA)" have been introduced under India's G20 chairmanship. MeitY hosted the inaugural meeting of the Digital Economy Working Group in Lucknow in February of this year.

Group of Twenty (G20) members include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, United States, and the European Union.

The G20 members account for nearly two-thirds of the world's population, over 75% of global trade, and about 85% of the world's GDP.
