A Ph.D. student at IIT Madras commits suicide, 3rd such death this year

 


According to authorities, a Ph.D. student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras committed suicide on Sunday in his Velachery, Tamil Nadu, room.

The dead student was 32 years old and a native of West Bengal. This is the eleventh suicide incident since 2018, and the third incident of suicide recorded from IIT Madras this year.

"The deceased student wrote on WhatsApp on March 31: "I'm sorry, not good enough." When his buddies got there after learning about the status, they discovered Sachin hanging in his room. After being examined, he was declared dead and an ambulance was dispatched. Further research is being done, "police reported.

The body was taken into custody by the police and transported for an autopsy at Royapet Government Hospital. A message from IIT Madras offers condolences for the loss.

"We regret to inform you that a Ph.D. Research Scholar from the Mechanical Engineering Department passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2023, in the afternoon, at his home in Velachery, Chennai. The research community suffers greatly when a student with an outstanding academic and research record leaves "IIT stated.

"The Institute extends its sincere sympathies and joins the grieving of the student's friends and family. In this trying time, the Institute kindly asks that everyone respect the family of the student's privacy. May the soul of the deceased rest in peace "It continued.

A third-year BTech student committed himself (hung himself) earlier on March 14 at the Madras IIT Campus. The dead was identified as Andhra Pradesh native Vaipu Pushpak Sree Sai, age 20.

The Kotturpuram Police have opened a complaint and are continuing their investigation. A researcher from Maharashtra committed suicide by hanging himself in a room on the IIT campus on February 14.
