As militants attack an Army truck in J&K's Poonch, 5 jawans are murdered

 


On Thursday, a terror attack in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of five Army soldiers. According to defense sources, the Army vehicle was fired upon by suspected terrorists as it traveled from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot in the Poonch region.

"Today at around 1500 hours, an Army vehicle traveling between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajauri sector came under fire from unknown terrorists who took advantage of the area's poor visibility and heavy rain to their advantage. The car caught fire after terrorists probably used grenades, according to a statement from HQ Northern Command.

The Rashtriya Rifles Unit, which was assigned for counterterrorism operations in the region, provided the Army jawans who perished in the incident with their life.

Another member of the Army sustained injuries in the event and was taken right away to the Army Hospital in Rajauri, where he is receiving medical attention.

Authorities stated that efforts are being made to find the offenders.

As Army and police officers sealed off the area, images from the scene showed the car completely engulfed in flames.

People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a terrorist organization supported by Jaish, has reportedly taken credit for the attack, according to sources.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his condolences for the loss of five Army soldiers.

"I am heartbroken by the deaths of courageous Army troops in a sad tragedy in Poonch. We shall always remember their extensive contribution to the country. The J&K L-G added, "My thoughts are with the grieving families.
