An elderly woman died after the elevator she was on, at a high-rise company in Noida's Precinct 137, malfunctioned Thursday night, officials said.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as 73-year-old Sushila Devi, a resident of Paras Tiera society.

“Around 4 p.m., the woman took the elevator from the 8th floor of tower 24 to the ground floor, alone in the elevator, the elevator malfunctioned, and the wire broke, so she fell freely. Rajeev Dixit, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Central Noida said: “It fell to the ground, then maintenance staff and other residents took the woman out of the elevator and brought her to her. hospital".

According to Dr. DK Gupta, the president of Felix Hospital, the woman who was taken to the hospital died. "The woman suffered injuries to the back of her head and a scratch to her elbow, apparently from a fall from an elevator. According to officials, the woman lives with her son and daughter-in-law in the company. The family of the deceased could not immediately respond.

Following the incident, residents of the company gathered in the common area to demand action against those responsible for the incident.

"For the past few months, the company's elevator has not been working properly. The company has repeatedly complained to the company's representative asking them to maintain the elevator but did not see any handling. The company has been handed over from the investor to the company. The apartment owners association just three months ago and since then the company has not been properly maintained,” said a resident of the company. Col Ramesh Gautam, president of AOA, did not return calls and texts despite repeated attempts.

ADCP Dixit said, "The family of the deceased has yet to file a complaint in this regard. Once a complaint is filed, an FIR will be registered at Police Department Area 142."

An official with the private elevator maintenance company said: "We are investigating the incident and cannot confirm whether the elevator is in free fall due to malfunction or other reasons."

The company has a total of 3,954 apartments in a total of 32 towers with 24 floors each, housing about 15,000 people.
