PMC will prioritize the development of 33 missing key routes to reduce traffic congestion

In an effort to ease traffic congestion in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a plan to prioritize the development of 33 missing key roads, which the civil service says will benefit the city. benefit more than one million passengers.

The ambitious project aims to develop 33 missing important links on 273.22 km of cross-city road. The length of these missing road links will vary between 100-200 meters to two-three kilometers and the estimated cost to develop these links will be around ₹1,800 crore.

PMC worked with students from MIT to conduct an in-depth survey of the city's roads and identify missing road connections. The study examined development plans (DPs) and regional development plans (PRs) of villages within the city limits. The absence of these missing routes has forced drivers to take detours or alternative routes, adding to the traffic burden on already congested roads. Missing routes will fill the void and provide smoother connectivity for passengers. Due to the challenges of high land acquisition costs, PMC has decided to prioritize developing these key links so that they can be completed and open to the public as soon as possible. Currently, work has begun on five of the missing seams.

According to V G Kulkarni, Chief Engineer of the Roads Department, each missing route with a maximum length of 300 meters will be developed. While allocating enough budget to develop important links over the next six to seven months; It is expected to benefit more than a thousand passengers.

Nikhil Mijar, PMC Transport Planner, said: “We have prioritized 33 missing links that PMC can easily expand and open to passengers. Currently, the road department is developing the missing routes, including:
Magapatta at Honeywell Incab (Hadapsar); Acts Road to Navy Bridge to Bhumkar Chowk (Ambegaon); Kale Padal at the Ravi Park Society; Hume Factory in Sinhagad Road; and from Airport 509 to Lohegaon Dhanori Road.

While residents of these areas have expressed hope that the missing routes when completed will result in significant savings in time and fuel.

Vinod Puranik, a resident of Sinhagad Road, said: “The situation in Sinhagad Road got worse after PMC started construction of the overpass. There is no alternative road to Sinhagad Road. As a result, residents face major traffic problems. If PMC builds on the missing section of the road connecting Hume Factory to Sinhagad Road, it will help residents save time and fuel. People can avoid Sinhagad Road and use this inner road to reach Rajaram Bridge.

Lohegaon resident Yogesh Jadhav said: “Airport 509 at Lohegaon Dhanori Road will be very useful. This will save time for Lohegaon and Dhanori residents.
