After nearly three decades, Srinagar hosted the Ganesh Visarjan

Over the course of several decades, the region of Jammu and Kashmir has been beset by the scourge of terrorism and violence, resulting in a somber atmosphere that casts a shadow over its festivals. However, a notable transformation appears to have taken place in the Kashmir valley following the abrogation of Article 370.

In a momentous occurrence, the Kashmir valley recently witnessed the observance of Ganesh Chaturthi, a Hindu festival, with Hindu families participating in the ceremonial immersion of Lord Ganesha's idol in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar. This marked a significant departure from the past, as Ganesh Chaturthi had not been celebrated in Srinagar for an extended period. The devout adherents carried out the immersion of the revered deity's idol, symbolizing the conclusion of the festivities.

The festivities commenced at the Siddhi Vinayak Ganapatyar temple situated in Srinagar's Habba Kadal area on a Tuesday morning. Kashmiri Pandits, a Hindu community native to the region, commemorated this occasion by engaging in traditional devotional songs and conducting special prayers imbued with spiritual significance.

Subsequent to the worshipful ceremonies dedicated to Lord Ganesha, an unprecedented event unfolded as the idol was immersed in the waters of the river Jhelum for the very first time. "We have maintained the tradition of celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in Srinagar for years, and for the inaugural time, we organized the eco-friendly immersion of Lord Ganesh's idol," remarked Sanjay Tikoo, President of the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti, during an interview with News9.

Sanjay Tikoo also disclosed that special prayers were offered, invoking blessings of peace and harmony upon the strife-ridden region of Jammu and Kashmir during this auspicious occasion.
