In light of the controversy surrounding derogatory comments made by BJP Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri against him, BSP MP Danish Ali has taken the initiative to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue a public condemnation of Bidhuri's conduct and ensure that the BJP MP faces appropriate consequences. Additionally, Ali has urged for enhanced security measures due to an increasing level of threats directed towards him.
Ali emphasized that the recent incident during a special parliamentary session was not just an attack on him as an individual but an assault on the very foundations of democracy itself. Expressing deep concern as a Member of Parliament, Ali called on the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Leader of the House, to take note of the incident that has cast a shadow over the parliamentary decorum and democratic functioning.
The BSP leader noted that the situation had deteriorated significantly since September 21, 2023, and had raised concerns about the parliamentary decorum and democratic functioning of the esteemed House. He pointed out that MP Ramesh Bidhuri had used inappropriate language when referring to the Prime Minister during his address, even though PM Modi was not present in the House.
Ali also mentioned that despite raising an objection to the use of such language, Bidhuri responded with offensive attacks against him on the floor of the House to divert attention. He highlighted derogatory words used by Bidhuri and claimed that the BJP MP had shown a complete disregard for the decorum of the House and verbally threatened him.
Ali further emphasized that while the incident received condemnation from most House members, certain individuals had been spreading false claims about his behavior and attributing statements to him that he never made during any parliamentary session.
He expressed concerns about threats to his personal safety and security, not only from Bidhuri but also from unknown individuals sending menacing messages. Ali believes it is the PM's responsibility as the Leader of the House to ensure the well-being of all MPs, regardless of political affiliations.
In his letter, Ali made several demands of the Prime Minister, including issuing a public statement condemning such behavior and upholding the highest standards of parliamentary proceedings. He called for accountability to be established promptly regarding Bidhuri's reprehensible conduct and for the BJP MP to face appropriate punishment to prevent similar actions in the future.
Given the escalation in threats, Ali requested strengthened security arrangements to enable him and other parliamentarians to carry out their duties without concerns for their safety.
To address the matter, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has referred the complaints from several MPs regarding Bidhuri's objectionable remarks to the Privileges Committee. The incident has generated significant controversy, with opposition parties calling for strict action against Bidhuri, and many MPs seeking accountability and consequences for his behavior.
