A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator representing West Bengal took it upon herself to initiate road repairs within her constituency after accusing the Trinamool Congress government of neglecting her pleas for assistance.
Chandana Bauri, the BJP MLA for Saltora Assembly constituency in West Bengal, embarked on the task of repairing the road that connects Rangamati to Rajamela. She asserted that she used her own salary to purchase the necessary construction materials.
Adorned in simple attire and equipped with a basket, spade, shovels, wheelbarrows, and bags of gravel, Bauri, along with her husband Shravan Bauri, a mason, could be seen filling potholes along the road.
According to Chandana Bauri, she had previously appealed to the local administration regarding the road's deteriorating condition but received no positive response.
She commented, "The ruling party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), touts its developmental initiatives and the work it claims to have accomplished. However, it has been a considerable amount of time since senior TMC leaders in the area were informed about the dilapidated state of the road between Rangamati and Rajamela, but they did not respond to the appeals."
Furthermore, she alleged that TMC leaders were unwilling to permit construction work as a form of retaliation for their electoral loss in her constituency.
Chandana Bauri also asserted, "Because I am a BJP MLA, they neglect to undertake any development work here. I am also prohibited from utilizing MLA funds for any public services within my constituency."
Local residents praised Bauri's dedication to repairing the road.
Nevertheless, the vice-president of the local TMC-led Panchayat Samiti, Nimai Majhi, contended that the road had already been inaugurated under the West Bengal government's Pathashree scheme, and construction work was presently underway.
Describing Bauri as a "dramatic woman," Majhi commented, "Approximately 40-50 percent of the road repair work has already been completed in the area under discussion."
He went on to say, "She is very theatrical. Residents of Saltora should be asked if Chandana Bauri has ever been seen in her constituency for any developmental work or programs."
