In North Bengal districts, severe rain causes 3 deaths and several displacements

The relentless downpour in the North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur districts of West Bengal has tragically claimed the lives of three individuals, further causing numerous others to be displaced from their homes and communities.

As the heavy rainfall persists, its repercussions are acutely felt, with widespread waterlogging and flooding afflicting various regions. This deluge has exacted a severe toll on the daily lives of residents, compelling hundreds to seek refuge in elevated areas for safety.

The districts have witnessed their primary rivers, namely the Tangon, Punarbhava, and Atryeyi, surging beyond their perilous thresholds. As a consequence, these waterways have inundated vast tracts of agricultural lands, villages, and towns.

Expressing concern over the dire situation, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, has made a fervent appeal to the state's administration to extend aid to those affected by the floods in North Dinajpur. In a communication posted on a platform known as "X," he highlighted how the persistent heavy rains have caused displacement and suffering for numerous individuals within the district.

Adhikari went on to implore the West Bengal Disaster Management and Civil Defence Department of Dakshin Dinajpur to swiftly initiate measures to provide immediate relief to the people residing in Kushmandi, Banshihari, Kumarganj, Balurghat Blocks, as well as other regions of the district that have borne the brunt of the intense rainfall. His plea encompassed the need for the establishment of secure shelters, the provision of sustenance, potable water, medications, and various other essential relief materials for the beleaguered populace.

Furthermore, it has come to light that a significant number of wards in Raigunj city are grappling with severe waterlogging. Distressed locals have asserted that some parts of the city suffer from a lack of a functional drainage system, compounding the challenges posed by the inclement weather conditions.

Contrarily, the Dinajpur administration has attributed the waterlogging predicament primarily to the relentless and unrelenting nature of the rainfall itself, indicating that this natural phenomenon has been the principal factor behind the inundation woes experienced by the affected areas.
