In the second ODI match of the series against Australia, India's opener, Shubman Gill, delivered a remarkable century. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer both notched up centuries, laying the foundation for India's substantial total against Australia on Sunday, September 24.
This marked Gill's second century in two ODI matches at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. After the match, Gill expressed his satisfaction at achieving a century and emphasized the importance of the Indian team gaining momentum at the right juncture. India had faced challenges in recent outings, including a loss to Australia at home and batting struggles in the West Indies and during the Asia Cup 2023.
Gill initially took his time, accumulating his first nine runs from 19 balls. He then accelerated, reaching his century in 92 balls. When asked about his approach, Gill explained that he prefers to get set first because he knows he can make up for any slow start later in the innings.
"It depends on the situation, but I do have the confidence that I can catch up later if needed. I have that confidence because I'm currently in good form. Moreover, the way KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav played, they maintained the momentum. Chasing 400 on any ground is a tough task, and the bowlers did their job," Shubman stated.
Sunil Gavaskar asked the young batsman which of his six fours and four sixes was his favorite. Gill replied that the one he hit straight over Cameron Green was possibly the most special for him.
India's next match against Australia is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27.
