West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided not to participate in the Trinamool Congress' planned protest in Delhi, which is centered around the denial of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to the state.
Mamata Banerjee has chosen to remain in West Bengal following medical advice, as she sustained an injury to her left knee during a recent trip to Spain. Consequently, she won't be able to travel to Delhi for the pre-scheduled program, which includes the protest over the state's demand for MGNREGA funds. Abhishek Banerjee will take charge of the event in her absence, according to Bengal Minister Sovon Deb Chatterjee.
The Trinamool Congress is preparing to stage protests in Delhi next month. Derek O'Brien, a TMC leader, had previously written to the Delhi Police, requesting permission for the party to establish pandals or tents and arrange overnight accommodations for approximately 50,000 people at Ramlila Maidan from September 30 to October 4. These accommodations are intended for MGNREGA workers from Bengal who will be conducting dharnas at various locations in Delhi. In his communication, Derek O'Brien referenced his earlier letters dated August 30 and August 31, 2023, regarding this matter.
