Recent intelligence findings have brought to light the ambitious agenda of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a prominent figure within the Khalistani movement. The intelligence report provides a detailed account of Pannun's objectives, which center around the contentious goal of disintegrating India along religious lines.
Security agencies have undertaken the compilation of a fresh dossier that meticulously outlines Pannun's activities and purported plans to carve the nation into multiple fragments, demarcated along religious lines.
This comprehensive report, as accessed by India Today, underscores the seriousness of Pannun's anti-national pursuits by revealing that a total of 16 cases have been registered against him in various Indian states. These cases span diverse geographical locations, encompassing Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, serving as compelling evidence of the gravity of his actions.
It is worth noting that Pannun is currently believed to be residing in the United States, thereby adding an international dimension to his activities.
The intelligence dossier paints a stark and unsettling picture of Pannun's overarching objectives. It accuses him of harboring aspirations to fragment India into distinct countries along religious lines. One such envisioned entity is a Muslim state, tentatively referred to as the "Democratic Republic of Urdustan."
In addition to his aspirations concerning the division of India, Pannun is actively engaged in efforts to radicalize the people of Kashmir, with the ultimate aim of separating the region from India. Notably, he once issued a threat to hoist the Khalistani flag at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi, further exemplifying his audacious agenda.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun's background reveals that he was born in Amritsar and pursued a law degree from Panjab University. His family has a historical connection to the partition, having migrated from Pakistan to Amritsar's Khankot Village in 1947. His father, Mahender Singh (now deceased), was gainfully employed in Punjab. Pannun has one brother, Magwant Singh, who resides abroad.
At present, Pannun is a practicing attorney in the United States and maintains strong ties to 'Sikhs for Justice' (SFJ), a secessionist group based in the U.S. that ardently advocates for Punjab's separation from India, birthing the concept of Khalistan. He serves as the prominent face of SFJ and holds the position of legal adviser.
Worth noting is the fact that Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has been officially declared a terrorist by the Indian home ministry due to his association with Sikh for Justice, as per the Unlawful Activities Act.
Furthermore, Pannun has been known to offer substantial financial incentives to individuals sympathetic to his cause. He famously pledged $2.5 million to anyone who would hoist a Khalistani flag at India Gate in Delhi. Additionally, he committed to offering $1 million to any police officer who would obstruct the Indian Prime Minister from raising the Tricolour at the Red Fort on India's Independence Day in 2021.
Pannun has also faced serious allegations, including his purported involvement in orchestrating acts of terrorism, sowing fear and terror in Punjab and other regions of India through his threats and intimidation tactics.
In response to these allegations, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against Pannu by the Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court on February 3, 2021. Subsequently, he was declared a "Proclaimed Offender" (PO) on November 29 of the same year, further intensifying the legal implications surrounding his activities.
