PM Modi alerts Justin Trudeau about "anti-India activities" in Canada at the G20 summit

During a meeting held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep concerns to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding the ongoing "anti-India activities" perpetrated by "extremist elements" within Canada.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated, "He (Prime Minister Modi) conveyed our strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada. They are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship."

The PMO also highlighted that the foundation of India-Canada relations rests on shared democratic values, a commitment to the rule of law, and robust people-to-people connections.

In relation to the "anti-India activities" transpiring in Canada, the PMO noted that aligning these extremist elements with organized crime, drug syndicates, and human trafficking should raise concerns for Canada as well.

The PMO underscored the importance of both countries collaborating to address such threats effectively.

As the G20 Summit concluded in Delhi, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful Indian G20 Presidency.

In response to queries about "Khalistan extremism" and "foreign interference," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asserted during a press conference that while Canada staunchly upholds the right to peaceful protest, freedom of expression, and freedom of conscience, it remains resolute in preventing violence and combating hatred.

Trudeau emphasized, "I believe, with respect to the community, it is crucial to remember that the actions of a few do not represent the entire community or Canada. On the flip side, we have also stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law, and we discussed the issue of foreign interference."

This dialogue reflects India and Canada's shared concerns and objectives in addressing extremism and upholding democratic values and the rule of law.
