Sujit Singh, a former block chief and the son of Sudhakar Singh, who is running as a candidate for the Ghosi assembly bypoll on behalf of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has found himself facing allegations of threatening a police constable and making disturbing remarks about the outpost in-charge potentially being subjected to physical harm.
The incident came to public attention when an audio recording of Sujit Singh's threatening remarks surfaced and began circulating widely.
In the audio recording, Sujit Singh can be heard menacingly confronting a constable stationed at the Kurti Jafarpur post over a malfunctioning water pipe. He went on to assert that his intention was to administer a harsh lesson to the outpost in-charge and even resorted to making derogatory caste-based comments directed at the police officer.
In response to this, the constable named Yogesh Kumar Yadav promptly lodged a formal complaint, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings against Sujit Singh.
However, when queried about the case, Sudhakar Singh, the SP candidate, downplayed its significance, claiming that he and Sujit Singh had faced multiple cases before, and this situation was unlikely to have any substantial impact on them.
A law enforcement official stated, "Sujit Singh had made explicit threats of assaulting the police inspector with a shoe, and the matter is currently under thorough investigation."
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed his concern over the situation, noting that SP leaders had resorted to issuing such blatant threats, reflecting a new low in their conduct.
"The Samajwadi Party appears to be apprehensive about losing the Ghosi Assembly bypoll. Their behavior has reached such deplorable depths that they are now resorting to making explicit threats of physical harm to our police officers. An inclination towards chaos and thuggery seems to be ingrained in their nature. This underscores the message we have consistently conveyed to the public through the media. Given that an FIR has already been filed in relation to these threats, we will be bringing this matter to the attention of the Election Commission, requesting a thorough investigation and the enforcement of stringent measures," stated Brajesh Pathak, as reported by ANI.
The Ghosi bypoll is scheduled to take place on September 5, with the vote tallying set for September 8.
