A 33-year-old woman from Ohio is now facing indictment for a series of murders involving men she encountered for sexual encounters in Columbus. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost made the announcement, revealing that Rebecca Auborn, who is also a mother, is accused of drugging and subsequently robbing these men, leading to the deaths of four individuals. It's noteworthy that the authorities suspect that there could be more such cases involving her.
According to the New York Post, Yost stated that Auborn committed these four murders during the first half of the year. She is also facing charges related to an additional incident in December where a man survived an attempted overdose after an encounter with her.
Yost emphasized the dangers of engaging in such activities, stating, "Don't buy sex in Ohio — it ruins lives and could cost you yours." He also underscored the possibility of more victims who may have fallen victim to Auborn and encouraged any potential survivors to come forward. "We're interested in holding a killer accountable," Yost asserted.
The authorities first began to suspect a connection between a series of overdose deaths when they received an anonymous tip. Subsequently, the Columbus Division of Police and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation linked Auborn to multiple overdose incidents and robberies.
In September, the woman was indicted and entered a plea of not guilty to murder and drug-related charges related to the death of one victim, Joseph Crumpler, aged 30. It is reported that Auburn confessed to lacing a man's crack pipe with fentanyl, leading to his overdose. Despite being aware of the man's dire condition, she allegedly chose to steal his vehicle and debit card.
Despite her lack of prior criminal history, Auborn now faces a multitude of charges, including murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, corrupting another with drugs, tampering with evidence, and drug trafficking – all of which are felony offenses.
Detectives, suspecting that there may be more victims, are reviewing records of similar overdose deaths. They have also extended an appeal to anyone who survived an encounter with Auborn to step forward, promising protection and urging them to provide vital information for the ongoing investigation.
The primary focus of the authorities remains on ensuring that the alleged serial killer is held accountable for her actions.
