As Wistron approves the factory sale, Tata will become the first iPhone manufacturer in India

The Tata Group has successfully acquired Wistron's operations in India, a significant development that enables the Tata Group to engage in the manufacturing and assembly of Apple iPhones within India, serving both the domestic and international markets. This noteworthy announcement was disclosed by Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar through the social media platform X.

Chandrasekhar expressed, "In a mere two and a half years, the Tata Group is now poised to commence the production of iPhones in India, catering to both the domestic and global markets. Congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron's operations."

In conjunction with this statement, he shared a press release released by Wistron, in which the company declared that it had convened a board meeting and granted its subsidiaries, SMS InfoComm (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. and Wistron Hong Kong Limited, the authorization to enter into a share purchase agreement with Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) for the sale of Wistron's InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Limited, signifying the sale of its 100 percent indirect stake.

The press release explained further, stating, "Upon confirmation and signature of the relevant agreements by both parties, the deal will proceed to obtain the necessary approvals. Following the completion of the transaction, Wistron will make the required announcements and filings in accordance with applicable regulations."

This landmark development signifies the Tata Group's historic position as the first Indian company to engage in iPhone production on Indian soil.

Chandrasekhar extended his accolades to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognizing the influence of the "visionary PLI scheme," which has already positioned India as a "trusted and major hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports."

Chandrasekhar also emphasized the unwavering support of the Government of India, represented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in nurturing the growth of Global Indian Electronics companies. This, in turn, benefits global Electronic brands that are seeking India as a reliable hub for both manufacturing and talent, furthering the Prime Minister's vision of making India a global electronics powerhouse.

The achievement by the Tata Group not only stands as a significant milestone for the conglomerate but also reflects India's escalating prominence in the realm of global electronics manufacturing.
