The leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has penned a letter to a special court addressing his concerns about security lapses within the prison where he is currently incarcerated. In his letter, Naidu has appealed for robust security measures to be put in place.
Naidu's arrest on September 9 stems from allegations of financial impropriety related to the Skill Development Corporation, which is said to have resulted in a reported loss exceeding Rs 300 crore to the state treasury. Presently, he is detained at the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison.
In his letter addressed to Judge BSV Hima Bindu of the Vijayawada Anti-Corruption Bureau Court, Naidu emphasized the need for comprehensive security arrangements both inside and outside the central prison in Rajamahendravaram. He has sought security measures commensurate with his Z plus category security status.
The letter highlights several purported security lapses, such as unauthorized video recordings and photography during entry into the prison complex, as well as instances of drones hovering over the jail premises. Naidu expresses concerns that these occurrences pose a threat to his life despite his Z plus category security.
Furthermore, the former Chief Minister alleges that police personnel were responsible for leaking the video footage and photographs, which subsequently became widely circulated in various media outlets, including social media, with the apparent intention of tarnishing his reputation.
Naidu reveals that one remand prisoner, who is incarcerated in the jail on a narcotics-related case, is allegedly moving around with a concealed pen camera.
Additionally, he asserts that an anonymous letter from left-wing extremists was received by the East Godavari district superintendent of police and jail authorities. The letter purportedly contained threats of an assassination plot against him, alleging that substantial sums of money were exchanged to facilitate this scheme.
Regarding the matter of drones, Naidu claims that unidentified individuals flew a drone to monitor his activities within the jail, possibly acting at the behest of individuals in positions of power. He notes that this drone flew close to the open jail area where some inmates were held and asserts that the police failed to take any action to uncover the truth behind this incident or identify its instigators.
Furthermore, Naidu mentions another incident involving a drone flown over the prison's main gate on October 6, capturing images of his family members who had come to visit him. He underscores that these incidents collectively raise serious security concerns for both him and his family.
In light of these alleged security deficiencies, Naidu's letter appeals to the Judge to arrange for a foolproof security setup in and around the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison, where he is currently serving his sentence.
