Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an indirect reference to the past administrations of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi while addressing a gathering of doctors. During his speech, Nitish Kumar reminisced about the deplorable state of Bihar's healthcare infrastructure when he assumed office in 2005.
Nitish Kumar pondered, "What was the condition back then in 2005?" He went on to describe the dire situation, highlighting how the state's health infrastructure was woefully ill-equipped and government hospitals saw only a limited number of visitors. To address these challenges, he detailed his efforts to enhance healthcare facilities by ensuring the presence of doctors, medical equipment, and essential resources.
The Bihar Chief Minister also shared a personal anecdote, recalling a night he spent at Patna's Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology (IGIC) to secure medical treatment for his mother when doctors at the institute were aware that the patient was the mother of a sitting Lok Sabha MP. He emphasized the substantial improvements made to IGIC since he took office.
Furthermore, Nitish Kumar discussed plans for a significant transformation of the Patna Medical College. Doctors in attendance noted that this initiative would result in the world's second-largest medical college and hospital. This reflects the ongoing efforts to revamp the healthcare infrastructure in Bihar under his leadership.
