PM Modi applauds India's "momentous achievement" after they win a "historic" 100 medals at the Asian Games

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his excitement about hosting the Asian Games contingent and interacting with the athletes. India's historic achievement of surpassing 100 medals at the 19th Asian Games in 2023 was celebrated after the Indian women's kabaddi team secured a gold medal by defeating Chinese Taipei.

Prime Minister Modi described this achievement as "momentous" and shared his joy, stating, "The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals." He congratulated the athletes, emphasizing that their performances had made history and filled the nation with pride.

Modi also expressed his anticipation of hosting the Asian Games contingent and engaging with the athletes, saying, "I look forward to hosting our Asian Games contingent on the 10th and interacting with our athletes."

India's medal tally includes 25 gold medals, 35 silver medals, and 40 bronze medals across various sports such as wrestling, archery (recurve), hockey, sepaktakraw, bridge, cricket (men's), and kabaddi (both men's and women's).

The country exceeded its previous best of 70 medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta by a significant margin, securing the historic 100-medal milestone. India's achievement at the 2023 Asian Games is only the second time the nation has achieved over 100 medals in any of the three major international games: the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games. The previous instance was during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi when India won 101 medals.

The Indian Air Force also extended its congratulations to the athletes, praising their outstanding performance and acknowledging the significance of this unprecedented medal tally in the Asian Games. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and the Air Warriors saluted the Indian contingent for making the nation proud. As the day progressed, three more medals were guaranteed to add to India's tally, further solidifying its position as a sporting powerhouse.
