In a Paris metro station on Tuesday morning, French police resorted to shooting a woman who was wearing a hijab, an incident widely reported by local media. According to information from the news agency AFP, commuters present at the scene described the woman's actions as threatening, prompting the use of force.
The woman reportedly made alarming statements, including threats to detonate explosives while shouting "Allah Hu Akbar" and "You are all going to die." As per the AFP report, the woman not only refused to comply with police directives but also issued threats of self-harm.
In response to this situation, a police officer discharged a single round, which inflicted a life-threatening injury to her abdomen, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor's office in a statement to AFP. Importantly, no explosives or other weapons were discovered in her possession during the aftermath of the incident.
Swiftly following the incident, the fire service provided immediate emergency medical assistance to the injured woman. The assessment revealed that she had suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen. This incident unfolded at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France station.
In the interest of her well-being, the woman was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, as conveyed by a spokesperson from the fire brigade. Her condition is reported to be critical.
Furthermore, based on the woman's behavior, there were reports from sources, including broadcaster BFM TV and the daily newspaper Le Parisien, that the police were considering the possibility of an Islamist "terrorist" motivation.
To ensure the safety of the general public, authorities took the precautionary step of evacuating the metro station in a timely and responsive manner.
