Tamil Nadu man shot dead by forest guard; family requests investigation

Tragedy struck in Tamil Nadu's Theni district as a man lost his life in a shooting incident involving a forest guard within a local tiger reserve this past Sunday. This incident has prompted an extensive investigation by the local authorities.

According to information provided by forest officials, the individual in question, identified as Eswaran, had ventured into the reserved forest area without authorization. When questioned by the forest personnel regarding his presence within the forest, Eswaran reportedly launched an attack against them, wielding a sickle as his weapon of choice.

In response to Eswaran's aggressive actions, one of the forest guards resorted to discharging a firearm, which regrettably resulted in the loss of the man's life.

Subsequent to this distressing event, the local police swiftly arrived at the scene and arranged for the deceased's body to be transferred to the Theni government hospital for a postmortem examination.

However, Eswaran's family members have raised concerns, asserting that he was merely on his way to his farm, which is situated in close proximity to the reserve forest. They contend that he was unjustly killed by the forest guard.

In light of these objections, the family initiated a protest, urging authorities to conduct the postmortem examination at the Kambam government hospital, rather than at the Theni government hospital. The protest persisted until the police reassured them of a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, ultimately bringing an end to the demonstration.
