Adani Power's financial report for the second quarter of FY24 unveiled a remarkable upswing, as the consolidated net profit experienced an astonishing 848 percent increase, surging to Rs 6,594 crore compared to the previous year's Rs 696 crore during the corresponding period.
This surge in net profit can be attributed to a confluence of factors, including elevated power demand, favorable tax adjustments, and a substantial tax gain of Rs 1,371 crore.
The noteworthy surge in power demand across India, particularly during the September quarter, played a pivotal role in bolstering Adani Power's robust financial performance. This unanticipated surge was spurred by a combination of circumstances, including atypical dry weather conditions, a notable reduction in hydroelectric output, and an overall surge in economic activity.
One key indicator of the company's improved performance is the consolidated average plant load factor, which signifies the percentage of energy generated concerning the installed capacity of the power plant. This factor exhibited a significant rise, climbing from 39.2 percent to 58.3 percent.
Consequently, the volume of power sales witnessed a remarkable uptick, soaring by approximately 65 percent to reach a total of 18.1 billion units.
This surge in power generation and sales left a profound impact on Adani Power's revenue from operations, which experienced a substantial 84.4 percent increment, achieving a total of Rs 12,991 crore.
Nonetheless, it's important to note that the company concurrently faced a 25.4 percent increase in total expenses. This escalation in expenditures can primarily be attributed to the amplified costs related to fuel, constituting a significant portion, approximately three-fourths, of the overall expenses incurred.
In parallel, Adani Enterprises also disclosed its Q2FY24 results today. It revealed that the net profit plummeted by over 50 percent. This decline in profitability can be ascribed to the challenges faced by the coal division, mainly due to the decline in coal prices.
