In response to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza region, the BBC, specifically its World Service division, is set to initiate an emergency radio service to provide support and essential information to the local population in Gaza. This program aims to offer real-time updates and critical safety guidance to help individuals locate shelter, access food, and secure water supplies.
BBC News Arabic will spearhead this crucial service for the people of Gaza during this period of immense necessity. BBC World Service Director, Liliane Landor, expressed the organization's readiness to deliver this vital assistance.
The radio service for Gaza will be created through a collaborative effort between teams based in Cairo and London. The service will debut with one program on November 3, followed by the introduction of a second daily broadcast starting on November 10.
The BBC World Service, responsible for the global outreach of the British broadcaster's non-commercial international broadcasting services, has a notable history of launching emergency broadcasts. In 2014, during heightened hostilities in Gaza, the BBC provided a similar service for the region. The organization also delivered an emergency radio service during the conflict in Sudan in May, and in response to the invasion of Ukraine last year, it extended its television bulletins to provide critical updates.
