Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Baghel must quit following allegations made by a probing agency on a betting app

In the wake of the recent claims made by the Enforcement Directorate regarding the payment of Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel by the promoters of the Mahadev betting app, senior BJP leader Brij Mohan Lal has called for the immediate resignation of the chief minister.

Reacting to these developments, Brij Mohan Lal, who is a BJP MLA and former state home minister, insisted that the chief minister should tender his resignation in light of the revelations made by the Enforcement Directorate.

The Enforcement Directorate's statements, released on Friday, have pointed to a forensic analysis and statements provided by a 'cash courier' that suggest the Mahadev betting app promoters have made payments amounting to approximately Rs 508 crore to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. These allegations are still under investigation, as per the agency.

The alleged courier, Asim Das, was apprehended by the agency in Raipur after they discovered Rs 5.39 crore in cash in his possession. It is believed that he was dispatched by the app promoters from the UAE, specifically to deliver a large sum of cash for the election-related expenses of the ruling Congress Party.

The agency's statement further claimed, "Asim Das has admitted that the seized funds were arranged by the Mahadev app promoters to be delivered to one politician 'Baghel' for upcoming election expenses in the state of Chhattisgarh."

The investigation has revealed that "regular payments have been made in the past, and so far around Rs 508 crore have been paid by Mahadev app promoters to Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh."

These allegations remain subject to further investigation, as stated by the agency.
