Dominic Martin, the individual who voluntarily surrendered to the police in connection with the series of explosions in Ernakulam, Kerala, opted to represent himself in court, declining the offer of legal aid multiple times. Despite the repeated offers of assistance from a legal aid lawyer, Martin insisted on acting as his own legal representative during the court proceedings.
Following his arrest, Martin was remanded to judicial custody until November 29 in connection with the explosion incidents. In a video released on social media, he provided an explanation for targeting a gathering of Jehovah's Witnesses, expressing his disagreement with their teachings and a desire to thwart their activities. He characterized their ideas as detrimental to the nation and harmful to young minds.
Martin was apprehended on Monday and faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act, and charges related to murder. On Tuesday, he was escorted to his residence in Athani for evidence collection, according to a police officer quoted by the PTI news agency.
The series of explosions occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. These explosions took place at a convention center in Kalamassery near Kochi during a prayer meeting of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
