In Kochi, a Chetak helicopter was involved in an accident on the runway of the naval air station, INS Garuda, on Saturday.
The accident transpired during maintenance taxi checks at the naval air station, resulting in the tragic loss of one ground crew member, according to a statement issued by the Navy spokesperson and posted on X.
The statement articulated, "A Chetak helicopter was involved in a ground accident today during maintenance taxi checks at INS Garuda, Kochi, leading to the unfortunate loss of life of one ground crew."
Subsequently, a Board of Inquiry has been instituted to probe the circumstances and factors contributing to the accident, as communicated by the Navy spokesperson.
The Navy spokesperson conveyed that Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Indian Navy, along with all Navy personnel, expressed their condolences and sorrow regarding the demise of ground crew member Yogendra Singh.
"Adm R. Hari Kumar & all personnel of the Indian Navy mourn the loss of life & pay tribute to Yogendra Singh, LAM, who lost his life in the unfortunate accident at Kochi and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family," another statement noted.
