Students at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have alleged the involvement of outsiders in an incident and called for a ban on external individuals entering the campus. The incident in question involved the alleged molestation and stripping of a female student by motorcycle-borne men while she was walking with a male friend on the IIT-BHU campus late at night.
Hundreds of IIT-BHU students staged a protest near the Rajputana Hostel following the incident, demanding increased security measures and restrictions on outsider access to the campus.
According to the victim's complaint, she and her friend were near the Karman Baba temple when three men on a motorcycle forcibly took her to a corner, separated her from her friend, and gagged her. The accused then proceeded to strip her, record a video, and take photos. After 15 minutes, they released her and took her phone number.
An FIR has been registered against three unidentified individuals based on the victim's complaint, and local authorities have initiated an investigation.
The incident has drawn criticism from various quarters, including the Congress party and its general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Abhay Singh, the secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit at BHU, and its members joined the protest and called for swift identification of the accused and strict legal action against them.
In response to the incident, the IIT-BHU administration announced a new security measure. They have decided to close all barricades within the campus from 10 PM to 5 AM to create a safer environment for staff and students.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students within educational institutions and the need for stronger security measures and vigilance on campuses.
