Two people are detained in Mumbai for threatening to kill Mukesh Ambani via emails

The Mumbai Police's Crime Branch has taken into custody two individuals on Saturday for their alleged involvement in sending menacing emails containing death threats to Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries.

Among the arrested suspects is a 19-year-old man hailing from Telangana, who stands accused of sending a series of death threat emails to Mukesh Ambani. Later in the day, another individual by the name of Shabad Khan (aged 19) was apprehended from the Gamdevi area of Mumbai.

The culprits are said to have initially demanded a ransom of Rs 20 crore from Mukesh Ambani but subsequently escalated the amount to a staggering Rs 400 crore through a sequence of threatening email messages.

It was discovered that the VPN network employed to dispatch these threatening emails was traced to Belgium.

A senior law enforcement official who is privy to the ongoing investigation remarked, "We are conducting an extensive interrogation of the accused, and he has been placed in police custody. At the outset, it appears to be a case of mischief, but we are actively seeking additional information concerning the nature of the emails and the network employed by the accused."

Mukesh Ambani, recognized as one of the wealthiest individuals globally, has been the target of threatening emails commencing on October 27, a series that extended across Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Each of these threatening messages contained ransom demands, as confirmed by law enforcement officials. In one of the emails, the accused explicitly threatened to inflict harm on Ambani if he did not remit Rs 200 crore.
