Video: "Drunk" Kanpur police officer urinates on a suspended vendor's cart

Two police officers in Kanpur faced suspension following the circulation of a video on social media that depicted one of them urinating on a vendor's cart. The incident unfolded in the Civil Lines locality of Kanpur on a Wednesday, where two constables, Hemant Kumar and Lokesh Rajput, were present while in their civil uniforms, seemingly visiting the area to enjoy some snacks.

The situation took a disconcerting turn when Lokesh, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, got into a verbal altercation with a local vendor. In an unfortunate sequence of events, he proceeded to urinate on the vendor's cart, all while the other constable, Hemant, stood as a witness to the situation.

Lokesh's behavior allegedly escalated when he engaged in a dispute with the locals who attempted to intervene and prevent him from urinating on the cart. Subsequently, the two constables issued apologies to the people and subsequently left the scene.

Locals reported that a police team eventually arrived at the location; however, they did not take any immediate action against the constables.

As the video of the incident began to circulate widely on social media, the police department decided to suspend the two constables from their duties.

Regarding this incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lakhan Yadav from the Kanpur Police made the following statement: "The two constables, who are currently assigned to the Dial 112 department, have been suspended. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated, and further measures will be determined based on the outcomes of the report."
