In an unsettling incident that occurred in 2021 at Tesla's Giga Texas factory and recently brought to light by witnesses sharing their accounts with The Information, a software engineer was reportedly assaulted by a malfunctioning robot. The engineer, responsible for coding software overseeing robots engaged in the precision task of cutting car parts from freshly cast aluminum components, found himself in a hazardous situation.
During a maintenance operation, two of the robots were deliberately deactivated to facilitate the required work, but unfortunately, a third robot remained unintentionally operational. This particular machine, designed specifically for handling aluminum car parts, unexpectedly activated its metal claws, clamping onto the engineer's back and arm, resulting in a significant and visibly distressing episode of bleeding, as detailed in the report.
Despite the severity of the injuries sustained, the engineer, who suffered an open wound on his left hand, purportedly chose not to take any time off from work. The filed injury report submitted to both federal authorities and Travis County health officials described the nature of the injuries as a "laceration, cut, or open wound." Notably, Tesla has refrained from offering any official comments on this distressing incident.
