After a liquor mafia attack on a police team in Bihar, one cop is killed and another is injured

A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar's Begusarai district, leading to the demise of a police sub-inspector (SI) and severe injuries to another constable during an alleged attack by liquor smugglers on the night spanning Tuesday and Wednesday. The unfortunate event occurred within the jurisdiction of the Nawkothi police station.

The incident transpired when a five-member police team, headed by sub-inspector Khamas Chaudhary, was deployed to thwart an anticipated liquor smuggling attempt. The team had received confidential information about a group planning to transport alcohol in an Alto car from Chhatauna village.

At approximately 12:30 am on Wednesday, an Alto car approached the police team. In an attempt to intercept the vehicle, SI Chaudhary and his colleagues were met with resistance. The car struck Chaudhary and another constable when they tried to halt it. As a result, Chaudhary sustained head injuries, hitting a stone after falling to the ground, and tragically succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

Simultaneously, the injured constable was promptly transported to a hospital by fellow team members, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Yogendra Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Begusarai, expressed, "SI Khamas Chaudhry laid down his life while trying to stop a liquor smuggling bid. An Alto car hit him, following which he died." SP Kumar also informed that a dedicated team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has been formed to apprehend the individuals involved in the car.

The police have already taken the owner of the car into custody in connection with the incident.
