Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak took decisive action on Friday by suspending Dr. Pradeep Varshney, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Badaun, following an alarming case of negligence during a post-mortem procedure on a woman's body.
The incident came to light when it was discovered that the woman's eyes were missing after the post-mortem examination. The deceased, a Badaun resident married for about nine months, was allegedly subjected to dowry harassment, with her father accusing her in-laws of murdering her. Subsequently, the police initiated a post-mortem examination of the body.
Upon opening the body bag after the post-mortem, family members were shocked to find both eyes missing. They promptly reported the matter to the District Magistrate. In response, a three-member inquiry committee, led by the Additional District Magistrate, was formed on December 11. The committee's report, finalized on December 12, found the post-mortem team culpable for the negligence.
The report specifically highlighted the conscious failure of the Chief Medical Officer of Badaun, Dr. Pradeep Varshney, in fulfilling his official responsibilities. Expressing dissatisfaction with the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered the suspension of Dr. Varshney after a thorough investigation.
Additionally, the Additional Director of Bareilly has been instructed to compile details regarding the doctors and other personnel involved in conducting the post-mortem of the woman's body. This step underscores the commitment to a comprehensive examination of the circumstances surrounding the negligence.
