The Principal of the Government Pre-University College for Girls in Haveri district, Karnataka, has found himself in a challenging situation as he is alleged to have allowed students to participate in a program dedicated to Veer Savarkar, known as "Veera Savarkar Samsarane." The event, graced by BJP leader KS Eshwarappa and his son Kanthesh, has drawn the attention of the education department in Karnataka, leading to potential disciplinary action against the principal.
This situation unfolded on December 12 when Principal Secretary Ritesh Kumar Singh, accompanied by Haveri District Panchayat's Chief Executive Officer Akshaya Sridhar, visited the college and observed a significant drop in attendance. Further investigation revealed that around 95 students were absent as they were involved in a group rehearsal for the "Veera Savarkar Samsarane" scheduled on December 17.
Expressing strong disapproval, Principal Secretary Ritesh directed the Zilla Panchayat CEO to submit a detailed report to the education department on the matter. According to sources, the report highlighted the alleged negligence of Principal K Krishnappa, accusing him of allowing female students to participate in private events outside the department's organized educational programs.
Umeshappa, the deputy director of the Pre-University Board Haveri, confirmed that a report had been sent to the Principal Secretary. Although initially unaware of the students' involvement, he acknowledged that they participated in the program's rehearsal.
Principal Krishnappa, however, maintains his innocence, asserting that he was unaware of the students attending the rehearsal. He explained that the students participated after regular class hours, concluding after 12 pm.
In response to the situation, Principal Secretary Ritesh Kumar clarified that they have received the report and are conducting a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa assured that stringent action would be taken, emphasizing the commitment to children's education and well-being.
