DMK leaders have raised objections, asserting that one of their party's Members of Parliament (MPs) found himself erroneously included in the roster of suspended parliamentarians despite his absence from the House. The suspension of DMK leader SR Parthiban, along with 13 other Opposition MPs, from Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Winter Session sparked dissatisfaction within the party, as they contended that Parthiban was not physically present in the parliamentary session during the disruptive incident that led to the disciplinary action.
The government, responding to the concerns raised by DMK MPs, subsequently issued a clarification to rectify the situation. It was clarified that SR Parthiban's inclusion in the list of suspended MPs was attributed to a regrettable case of 'mistaken identity.' Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, addressing the matter, disclosed that a total of 13 Opposition MPs, including Parthiban, faced suspension from Lok Sabha. Notably, DMK MPs had earlier communicated that SR Parthiban, who was erroneously named among the suspended MPs, was situated in Chennai at the time of the parliamentary proceedings.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi offered further clarification, elucidating that the inclusion of SR Parthiban's name in the suspension order resulted from an inadvertent misidentification. He revealed that, upon recognizing the error, a formal request was made to the Speaker to rectify the situation by removing the wrongly implicated MP's name from the suspension list. Subsequently, the Speaker acknowledged and accepted this corrective request, emphasizing the commitment to fairness and accuracy in parliamentary proceedings.
The disciplinary measures against Opposition members in Lok Sabha were instigated in response to their protests, wherein they demanded a statement from the government regarding a security breach in the Parliament. The suspension count stands at fourteen Opposition MPs, encompassing 13 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha, all facing punitive actions for their alleged "unruly" conduct during parliamentary sessions. The breakdown of the suspended MPs includes nine from Congress, two from CPM, one from DMK, and one from CPI. This episode underscores the significance of precision and attentiveness in parliamentary procedures to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
